What originally attracted you to working at Gochkeys?
With an undergrad in English & education and a master’s in Spanish language and literature, I spent the first part of my career teaching Spanish for my alma mater. After a decade I learned I loved teaching, but I no longer felt the teacher’s schedule was a good fit for my young family. When Josh Schukas — one of Gochkeys’ founders and an old friend — reached out to me about the flexibility and rewards of recruiting, the rest was history.
What’s your role with Gochkeys today?
Today I work exclusively for one of our premier clients — a private equity group whose portfolio of medtech companies we love partnering with. That focus lets me go deep instead of wide: I get to know each portfolio company’s culture and hiring needs in real detail, build lasting relationships with their leadership teams, and run every search with the same 10-point interview process I always have — meeting with hiring managers, writing tailored job descriptions, sourcing and personally interviewing well-qualified candidates, presenting only the strongest options, prepping everyone for each interview stage, checking references, and staying with each candidate through their transition into the new role.
Boy, that sounds like a lot. Do you like it?
Hahaha, I do. Sure, some days it’s a lot — but focusing on one client means I really get to know their business, so it rarely feels repetitive. My role is to make friends with bright, interesting people who are on the cutting edge of medical device technology, and I often catch myself wishing there were more hours in the workday. Gochkeys is great about empowering me to get my job done quickly, too — I love our new office and using tools like ChatGPT, Bard, and LinkedIn Recruiter — and the flexible schedule means I can talk to you when it’s good for you and still be an awesome mom.
What’s got you excited about Gochkeys’ future?
Oh man, so many things. We just moved into a third office with real team meeting space, we have a brand-new logo and look on the way, and it feels like the whole team is leveling up together — reading Spin Selling, digging into the Enneagram, even Josh’s questionable taste in “teaching tools.” I love automation, and Gochkeys is very open to my projects, so it continues to be rewarding to feel like I’m making a real contribution to our growth. And my next promotion is always in sight, so fingers crossed you’ll see another blog post about me soon.
